Speed Testing of DIY CNC Machine
Testing the speed limit of a new DIY build.
Ball screw pitch: 5 mm
Delta ECM-B3M servos 400W
Servo resolution: 5000 steps/rev (1 micron at the axis)
Feed: 24 m/min (4800rpm)
Acceleration: 3 m/s²
4800 rpm / 60 s x 5000 steps/rev = 400 kHz
400 kHz is the specified limit of the EdingCNC 760 controller board and the servos run just fine, no jitter, no lagging.
Also the 3 m/s² at this speed do not pose a problem. The machine is quite rigid and doesn’t shake or vibrate at all during direction changes.
Most DIY mills start to walk from the bench at half of these values.
This is a satisfying result prior to the milling tests.
