Iodine Powder + Slow Heating

Watch iodine powder being slowly heated under a Bunsen burner and observe the beautiful violet/purple vapours produced during sublimation.

Observation:
On gentle heating, solid iodine changes directly into violet iodine vapour. On cooling, iodine vapour can deposit back as solid iodine.

This is a classic example of sublimation, where a solid changes directly into a gas without becoming a liquid first.
