General science ,topic evaporation and sublimation
Evaporation
Definition: Evaporation is the process in which a liquid changes into a gas (vapour) from its surface, usually due to heating.
Examples:
Water changing into water vapour when heated.
Wet clothes drying in the sun.
Water from a puddle slowly disappearing.
Example sentence:
👉 When water is heated, it evaporates and changes into water vapour.
Sublimation
Definition: Sublimation is the process in which a solid changes directly into a gas without changing into a liquid first.
Examples:
Dry ice (solid CO₂) changes directly into carbon dioxide gas.
Camphor slowly changes into vapour.
Naphthalene balls (mothballs) gradually disappear by sublimation.
Iodine can change directly from solid to vapour when heated.
Example sentence:
👉 Dry ice changes directly from a solid into a gas by sublimation.
Main difference:
Evaporation: Liquid → Gas
Sublimation: Solid → Gas
