🧊💥 DRY ICE EXPERIMENT — WHY DID THE BOTTLE BURST?
What happens when dry ice comes into contact with water inside a bottle? In this fascinating science demonstration, we observe how dry ice produces carbon dioxide gas and how pressure can build up rapidly in a confined space.
🔬 The Science Behind the Experiment
Dry ice is the solid form of carbon dioxide (CO₂). At normal atmospheric pressure, it changes directly from a solid into a gas through a process called sublimation.
When dry ice is placed in water, heat transfer speeds up its sublimation. The carbon dioxide gas occupies much more volume than the original solid. In a sealed container, this can cause pressure to rise dangerously, potentially resulting in a sudden and violent burst.
⚠️ IMPORTANT SAFETY WARNING: Never put dry ice inside a sealed bottle or other closed container. Pressure can build up unexpectedly and cause serious injuries. This demonstration should not be repeated as a sealed-container experiment.
