CNC Machining Mild Steel at 8,000 RPM… Until My End Mill BREAKS!
In this video, I’m CNC machining mild steel with a 6-flute carbide end mill from Haas Tooling (Part #03-2138). Unfortunately, this end mill doesn’t survive the job!
This tool had already seen plenty of abuse before this video, so I wasn’t exactly starting with a fresh end mill. Watch the entire machining process in real time, including the moment the tool breaks. I stop the machine and explain what happened.
Cutting Parameters:
Machine: Sharp SV-2412 CNC Mill
Material: Mild Steel
Tool: Haas Tooling 6-Flute Carbide End Mill (#03-2138)
Spindle Speed: 8,000 RPM
Depth of Cut (DOC): 0.750″
Width of Cut (WOC): 0.025″
As usual, there’s almost zero editing. No time-lapses, no sped-up footage, just real CNC machining from my shop.
Do you think these cutting parameters were too aggressive, or was this worn-out end mill simply ready to retire? Let me know in the comments!
