Convincing my wife the 3D printer was worth it (Part 8) #3dprinting #3dprint #diy #shorts #3dprinted
My toddler finally figured out how to open the lower cabinets, and those bulky store-bought U-locks just weren’t going to cut it. Not only are they an eyesore, but they still let the door open just enough for little fingers to get smashed.
In Part 8 of trying to convince my wife the 3D printer was a worthwhile investment, I decided to engineer a completely invisible, toddler-proof solution. By modeling a custom rotary latch with a spring-loaded ball bearing detent, our existing cabinet knob now acts as a secret mechanical key. It has the perfect amount of tuned resistance to keep the baby out and gives a super satisfying “click” when you turn it to the unlocked/locked position.
Printed in durable PETG, this might be my favorite functional household fix yet! The wife approves, and we live to print another day!
