In this video, I unbox the 3020 Nova and run an aluminum cutting test right after the initial setup.

Through the process of making a camera battery plate, I tested several CNC operations, including Facing, Adaptive Clearing, Hole Milling, Drilling, Thread Milling, and Chamfering.

To evaluate its cutting performance, I set the toolpaths a bit aggressively and intentionally designed the part with many corner-radius features and relatively large chamfers.

For this test, I used 5052 aluminum, which is relatively gummy and prone to chip welding. With a more machinable aluminum like 6061, I think faster cutting and an even better surface finish should be possible.

I usually use a Makera Carvera Air, so the 3020 Nova is my first GRBL-controlled desktop CNC. As part of exploring the GRBL workflow, I also tested a few customizations to improve setup and usability, including custom macros, an air blast, and a simple chip cover.
