Can a CNC Beginner Really Make THIS? | Makera Z1 Pro
Can a beginner really use the Makera Z1 Pro to CNC machine aluminum, harder metals like brass and wood? In this Makera Z1 Pro review, I test exactly that. Going from simple 2D CNC work to 3D machining and a double-sided CNC project.
I’m not a machinist, and that’s really the point of this video.
Rather than showing what the Makera Z1 Pro can do in the hands of an expert, I wanted to see what a CNC beginner can realistically achieve with it. With a lot of help from the CNC and I also show that AI can help with you CNC work.
I start with the basics and setting up the CNC before moving into more challenging CNC machining in wood and metal. Along the way I explore the complete workflow, including creating and importing models, Makera Studio, CAM and toolpaths, workholding, automatic probing, feeds and speeds, roughing and finishing, 3D machining and double-sided CNC machining.
For the final project, I put everything together to machine a small wooden container with a matching lid and a custom brass spoon, including creating the model, machining the 3D geometry and figuring out how to accurately machine both sides of a part.
I also use AI throughout the process to help with CNC questions, model creation and understanding machining strategies, which raises an interesting question: how much CNC knowledge do you actually need to get started today?
