Can You Separate Sand, NH₄Cl and NaCl? Most Students Can’t!#shorts

Can you separate a mixture of SAND, AMMONIUM CHLORIDE and SODIUM CHLORIDE? Most students mix up the order! 🧪

✅ Answer: Sublimation, then add water, then filter.

Step 1: Heat the mixture. Ammonium chloride sublimes (solid to gas) and is collected on a cool surface.
Step 2: Add water to the residue. Sodium chloride dissolves, sand doesn’t.
Step 3: Filter. Sand stays on the filter paper.
Step 4 (optional): Evaporate the filtrate to get the sodium chloride back.

📝 Exam tip: Only ammonium chloride sublimes. Remember this to choose the correct order in any separation of mixtures question.

Useful for GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level, AP Chemistry, IB Chemistry, WAEC, NECO, JAMB, and high school chemistry students preparing for exams.
